What We Do

What is coding and why is it important?

Coding is the skill to design and write 'code', which is a set of commands that tells computers what to do.

Code is everywhere. Think about your day so far. Did you send chat messages with your friends and family? Checked what's happening on Facebook? Did you shop or bank online? Played some games? Googled a question? All of those are powered by code.

In the near future, those who can master code and create technology (instead of just using it) will have an advantage. It is estimated that by the year 2030, 50% of Australian jobs will requires some level of coding and software design skills (source: The Future of Work – Setting Kids up for Success)

At Spread the Code, we think all children should learn to code. Even if your child is not planning to be a computer whiz or code the next Facebook, learning to code will teach them useful skills:

  • Maths and logic

  • Critical thinking

  • Problem-solving

  • Persistence

  • Creativity

Most importantly, they will have a deeper understanding of what is behind the technology that runs the world.

Spread the Code is currently based in the western suburbs of Melbourne, and our mission is to, well, spread the code. We help primary school kids to discover the joy and power of coding.

We run regular coding classes in Braybrook. Details here.

We also work with primary schools to spread the skill of coding. Recommend us to your school - details here.
